Dolce & Gabbana Presents Its SS’24 Collection at MFW.

“We keep asking ourselves, ‘Will people remember us? Will we leave a legacy that is remarkable enough, a style that will stand the test of time?'”

On the second day of Milan Fashion Week, the designers behind Dolce&Gabbana, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, delivered a sublime collection where tailoring is the starting point; wanting to transcend beyond formal elegance. A season in which the firm’s archives once again resonate strongly, accompanied by unique accessories that become objects of desire and well-worked details that make the garments, from the most formal to the outwear pieces, a whole world of textures and visual delights.

Dolce & Gabbana offered an interpretation of silent luxury, reinventing masculine silhouettes with feminine tailoring tricks without the brand’s usual color and shine. The expansive collection of nearly 80 looks was a departure for the designer duo in any season, a play on quiet luxury, a reinvention of timelessness, with the designer’s fantasy reflected in the silhouettes. There were no prints, no color, no sparkle. Instead, the focus was on form and materials, with a neutral color palette of black, white, camel and ivory.

The invitation to the fashion show arrived in a black envelope containing a metallic replica of a credit card, along with a brochure with images of the collection. The word STYLE was printed in capital letters on its cover. Stefano explained, “The credit card is an indicator, a symbol of identity. You are its only owner, it’s about you being who you are. Style is also about having a strong identity, solid foundations.” Domenico interjected, “‘Style’ is quite different from ‘fashion.’ So we have tried to do something new, but within the codes of our own style, keeping it strong and recognizable while making it evolve.”

Dolce & Gabbana’s legacy is firmly rooted in their powerful codes, allowing them the freedom to experiment and evolve without compromising their inherent character. Men’s fashion has always served as an expressive canvas for the designers, and for this collection, they revisited familiar signifiers in renewed and simplified interpretations.

“This collection captures the essence of highly coveted contemporary menswear. It exudes an elegance that transcends formal boundaries and encompasses everything from outerwear and shirts to tailored pants. With unique accessories and eye-catching details, it presents a handpicked selection that portrays the effortless demeanor of a discerning and enlightened man.” – By Dolce Gabbana.

Elements such as sleeveless tops, black, coppola hat, rosary, lace, transparencies and Sicilian influences were employed, with a primary focus on impeccable tailoring and construction. Flowers are one of the elements to highlight in this installment: along with brooches, they become faithful companions of Domenico and Stefano’s designs, a classic nod that in turn, and in conjunction with the vaporous pieces, creates a sense of softness that permeates this entire collection, one that “presents a select curation that portrays the effortless demeanor of a discerning and enlightened man,” as the Italian firm explains.

Quilted garments also jump out at D&G this season: “In a spirit of innovation and craftsmanship, quilted pieces redefine volume with a harmonious blend of exploration, aesthetics and technology,” the brand shared.

The icons of the Dolce&Gabbana closet, whether we are talking about the Sicilia, Taormina or Dolce jackets, now as small coats or single and double breasted, are joined by the DC Logo Bag, an innovative accessory designed to meet the needs of the contemporary man.

“The focus is on revamped ensembles that take a sartorial approach, skillfully accentuating the male form with structured volumes and creative layering techniques. The Sicilia and Taormina jackets extend to become small coats, revealing the pressed crease of the shorts underneath. The Dolce jacket is available in single and double breasted styles, paired with wide pants or the new cargo model.” – By Dolce Gabbana.

The collection presents a new version of the vests, featuring peak lapels. For outerwear, an exquisite double cashmere coat steals the spotlight with its V-neck design and relaxed, dropped shoulders. Paired with a matching scarf, technical leggings and high drivers, this ensemble exudes sophistication and comfort. Moreover, the color palette is a sequence of sophisticated and iconic color blocks, ranging from pure white to milk, from sand to camel, from dark brown to stone grey, from pearl to absolute Sicilian black.

In an alternation of formal looks with slim and oversize silhouettes, bomber jackets and technical sweaters, cargo pants and sweatshirts appear to interpret the wardrobe of the most contemporary man. Fads, banned trends and everything that is not part of the true DNA of the brand.
