The Stunning Dior Pre-Fall 2023 Fashion Show Held in India

The first official Dior calendar show in India makes history and marks the renaissance of fashion in the country.

The French fashion house presented the pre-fall 2023 collection in Mumbai, bringing all the colours and suggestions of Indian cultural heritage to the runway.

The iconic Gateway of India, located in the city of Mumbai, India, was the setting chosen by Maison to present its Pre-Fall 2023 collection. This presentation reflected an authentic tribute to local craftsmanship and ancestral traditions that highlighted the close relationship that for many years joined the French house with the Asian country. The firm says that once again, Maria Grazia collaborates with the Chanakya school, “A school in India dedicated to teaching women the art of embroidery. The creation of this school for women was, in part, driven by Maria Grazia and her feminist vision, as this art was previously reserved for men”.

“I personally wanted to celebrate and showcase the incredible knowledge that India offers to the international fashion world in the field of embroidery, the mastery of the artisans who continue to work in this craft and the commitment of Chanakya’s founders to preserve the history and culture of India. portrayed by each embroidery technique,” Chiuri said in an Instagram post.

Dior has had a long association with India through the Mumbai-based Chanakya atelier, which works with artisans and underprivileged women.

The location was a clear inspiration: the runway itself was adorned with marigolds and diya lamps, and the clothes featured Benarasi brocade fabrics and Madras checks, mirror work, knotted dyed details, Nehru collars and kurta tailoring.

From the relevance of embroidery, traditional Indian costumes or abstract prints and geometric shapes, to the total looks of pants and small boleros to games, fluid silhouettes, tops or jackets starring sequins, in different shades, sizes and styles, or pearls were some of the trends to highlight a bright proposal where colour gained prominence. Karishma Swali, who runs the Chanaky ateliers, had a strong influence from the wide and striking range of colours and materials that Chiuri has chosen for this collection, such as silks – in shades of green, yellow, pink and purple – but also in the use of different techniques, shapes or decorative motifs.

Reshaping its signature silhouettes, the line includes a colour-block sequence of silks, spanning shades including green, yellow, pink, and purple, in exclusive evening coats, straight sari-inspired skirts and traditional Indian attire. Fusing fashion heritages and histories, the silk-infused lineup also flaunts a bevy of bright pants, boleros, jackets , and blouses.

Celebrities from around the world attended the show: Hollywood actors Yara Shahidi, Cara Delevingne, Freida Pinto, Maisie Williams and Simone Ashley; Thai actors Mile Phakphum and Apo Nnattawin, and Bollywood stars such as Sonam Ahuja Kapoor and Anushka Sharma with her husband, well-known cricketer Virat Kohli, as well as sitarist Anushka Shankar.

For the event, Delevingne wore a multicolored warp-print cotton coat with a white shirt and shorts, a braided leather belt and knotted ankle heels in metallic silver, all from Dior.

Sonam Kapoor wore a pink satin coat, shirt and skirt from Dior Pre Fall 2023. She combined it with handbag, jewelry and shoes also from the brand.
