‘Barbie’, The Movie Is Not Just a Movie, It Is Also A Fashion Trend
The movie – directed by Greta Gerwig is getting closer and closer to its end, and we are really excited about its release! Aren’t you?
At the end of 2018, we had got some rumours which said actress Margot Robbie was in talks to star in the new Barbie movie. However, there has been some changes so far. The project changed hands: from Sony it went to Warner Bros. Moreover, the company decided that the actress was going to be in charge of starring in the film, directed by none other than Greta Gerwig – one of the most interesting and controversial voices in cinema today. So among her many projects, she is bringing the doll to the screen again.
Moreover, a fashion is blooming thanks to the movie: the “Barbiecore” trend.

The film is set in “Barbieland,” a beautiful and colorful society with Kens and Barbies. Ryan Gosling’s Ken, said to be a “complete doofus,” is obsessed with Barbie, but loves the real world for all the reasons Barbie hates it (beauty standards, sexism, etc). Gerwig’s film becomes a “big fish-out-of-water comedy” when Ken and Barbie leave “Barbieland” for the real world and Mattel’s CEO (Will Ferrell) goes after the duo to bring them back to Barbieland.
Robbie said her new character is someone who promotes “confidence, curiosity and communication during childhood, and empowers kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles, from princess to president.” She also expressed that she was “very honored” to take on the role and “produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences around the world.”
“People immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot’s playing Barbie, I know what she is,'” he said, “But our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different, what you didn’t know you wanted.'”

As for its stars, the film will star Margot Robbie as Barbie, and Ryan Gosling as Ken, and the beloved comedian behind Anchorman and Step Brothers, Will Ferrell, will bring his humor to the plastic world of Barbie and Ken.
It is also known that there will be different versions of Barbie and Ken in the story. The other versions of the doll will be Issa Rae and Hari Nef.
In addition, the movie will also include notable actors Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera and, most intriguingly, Sex Education’s Emma Mackey, who also signed on to co-star Ncuti Gatwa (role not yet revealed).
As announced by Warner Bros. Pictures at CinemaCon 2022 (Las Vegas), the movie is set to hit cinemas on July 21, 2023.

The Barbie’s upcoming film is currently giving us the Barbiecore trend thanks to the worldwide creative designers who are creating collections for the FW 2022-23 season, inspired by the iconic plastic dolls, such as Valentino PP, Versace, Carolina Herrera, Alexander McQueen, Loewe, Lanvin, Michael Kors, Molly Goddard, etc.
The trend started with fashion and beauty (think monochrome pink outfits and bleached hair). We have officially entered the era of Barbiecore.
Also, many celebrities are keen on wearing this trend like Leonie Hanne, Elsa Hosk, Zendaya, Lizzo, Anne Hathaway, Kim Kardashian, among others.
