The Tony Awards celebrates Broadway’s best plays and musicals. This most-anticipated ceremony was held for the first time this year at the United Palace, an ornate movie theatre on 176th Street in Washington Heights, nearly eight miles north of Times Square. With the Writers Guild of America still on strike, the program featured unscripted commentary from the presenters, musical performances from the year’s productions, plus Lea Michele’s rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” from last season’s “Funny Girl,” and a wordless opening dance number by Ariana DeBose, in addition to introducing the categories and winners. In addition to Lea, guests included Lupita Nyong’o, Jessica Chastain and Michelle Williams, among others, looking lovely in their incredible looks and betting on the trends we’ll be seeing more of this red carpet season.

All eyes were on the pink carpet as Broadway’s biggest stars arrived at the 76th Annual Tony Awards. Jessica Chastain made a glamorous entrance in a bright yellow Gucci strapless gown. While Lupita Nyong’o took inspiration from high fashion’s obsession with armour by turning to Pakistani artist and fashion designer Misha Japanwala for a fabulously surrealist creation, just as we’ve already seen in celebrities like Rihanna’s red Loewe Super Bowl ensemble or Zendaya’s pink Tom Ford moulded bodice by Tom Ford. In addition, Jodie Comer won Best Lead Actress for Prima Facie and took home the first award of the night. Other big winners included Kimberly Akimbo for Best Musical, Leopoldstadt for Best Play and Parade for Best Musical Performance. It was all glamour!

Let’s take a closer look at the six celebrities who dazzled on the pink carpet.

LORNA COURTNEY

For the pink carpet at the Tony Awards 2023, Lorna Courtney looked chic in a Markarian piece with a sweeping train. She was one of the celebrities who bet on the “flower power” trend.

ANNA WINTOUR

Anna Wintour turned heads at the ceremony held at the United Palace Theatre in a floor-length gold gown with short sleeves. Sporting her signature pageboy mane and dark sunglasses, Wintour perfectly paired her look with white open-toe heels.

JESSICA CHASTAIN

Jessica Chastain lit up the Tony Awards red carpet in a vibrant and sunny yellow dress designed by Gucci. The structured gown was elevated with a dramatic cape that added an extra touch of elegance and sophistication. This bold fashion choice was a true standout of the evening, and Jessica’s confident and radiant presence brought the look to life. It was a perfect example of how a daring and unique outfit can make a lasting impression on the red carpet.

LUPITA NYONG’O

The Tony Awards red carpet is typically a place where stars play it safe with their fashion choices, but Lupita Nyong’o decided to break the mold and take a bold risk with her outfit – and it definitely paid off. The actress donned a striking silver breastplate under a sleek black suit by Misha Japanwala, accessorized with stunning De Beers jewellery.
